Adair County
Organized in 1841.
The county seat is Kirksville.
It was
named for John Adair, governor of Kentucky.
John Adair was born in
Chester County South Carolina on January 09, 1757. During the
Revolutionary War he served in the Continental Army.
He was a
delegate to the Kentucky State Constitutional Convention, a member of the
Kentucky State House of Representatives,
a Speaker of the Kentucky
State House of Representatives. He was a Kentucky Governor, Senator and
U.S. Representative.
He served in the military during the War of 1812.
He died in Harrodsburg Kentucky on May 19 1840.
