West Carroll Parish
The parish was formed in 1877, when Carroll Parish was split in two.
The parish seat is Oak Grove. Previous to 1906, when a branch of the Missouri Pacific Railroad was run through the town, Oak Grove had been a negligible settlement called Pin Hook. Whenever court is held in Oak Grove an old plantation bell is rung. This bell is mounted on a high scaffold at the rear of the courthouse. It was moved from Floyd, the original parish seat, and was once used to guide lost people back to safety from the swamp east of Bayou Macon, as well as for a signal for social gatherings.
