Jefferson County, Kansas HISTORY

    Jefferson County is located in northeast Kansas. It was one of the thirty-three counties created by the Kansas territorial legislature held at the Shawnee Manual Labor School August 25, 1855 (As of 04 Apr 2019 Kansas has 105 counties, the sixth-highest total of any state.). Jefferson County's county seat was originally established in Ozawkie and was later moved to Oskaloosa.
