Pearl River County Pearl River County was organized in 1890, formed by land taken from Marion and Hancock counties. It was originally formed in 1872 as Pearl County, but due to financial problems, was abolished in 1878. The "Pearl River" is the river that serves as the lower boundary between Mississippi and Louisiana, near the Gulf of Mexico. Pearl River County is located on the southwest border of Mississippi.
