Fremont County was organized in 1884, and
was named after John C. Fremont, general, explorer, and politician.
It is also home of the Wind River Indian
Reservation which is the home of the Shoshone and Arapho tribes of the
Native Americans. Lander is the county seat of Fremont
County, and was named after a transcontinental explorer Fredrick W.
Lander. It is located in Central Wyoming along the middle
fork of the Popo Agie River.
