Labette County History
Labette County was organized in 1867, and was named for the second largest creek which runs from Parsons to Chetopa
The creek had been named for an early French-Canadian fur trapper,
Pierre LaBette, who had lived along the Neosho River in the 1830s and
1840s.
Labette County in the 1840s mainly consisted of Osage Native Americans.
Oswego is the county seat.
