Roane County
Roane County was founded on Nov. 6, 1801 and was named for Archibald Roane, the second Governor of Tennessee
The Avery Trace was a trail blazed through the wilderness by early hunter Peter Avery which connected the cities of Knoxville and Nashville.
Early travellers following the trail ended up settling in Roane county.
A fort - Fort Southwest Point - was built on a high bluff overlooking the Clinch and Tennessee Rivers.
The Avery Trace was eventually replaced by Interstate 40.
