Madison County
One of Montana's original 9 counties, it was founded in 1865; at the time it was part of the Montana Territory.
The county seat of Virginia City was also the Montana Territorial Capital from 1865 to 1875.
The courthouse, constructed in 1875, is still used for County offices.
