Roosevelt County Information
Formed in 1903 from parts of Chaves and
Guadalupe Counties.
The county seat is Portales
Portales was settled in the late 1800s and the city was formally
established in 1909. Its first mayor was Washington Ellsworth
Lindsey, later a state governor of New Mexico.
