Lincoln Parish History
The parish was established in 1873 from land that had belonged to Bienvilee, Claiborne and Jackson Parish and Union Parishes.
It is named for former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln.
The parish seat is Ruston.

"In the settling up of this country it is difficult to determine which of the two settlements was settled first, Vienna or the Red Wine settlement. The first settlers of Vienna were Jeptha Colvin and his sons, Phillip Brinson and Thomas Nelson. (Note - Phillip Brinson was at Vienna by 1823). The Rev. McFarland was a Baptist preacher who settled at Vienna. Red Wine was settled by Thomas Grigsby, Rodel Smith and Colonel Bond. In the vicinity of Choudrant were: Abraham Pipes, a Methodist minister; the Mays, Dowdys and James Huey families. Vienna was incorporated directly after the War and was made the first Parish seat of Lincoln.  Formerly it was in Jackson Parish.  Vienna grew rapidly until the completion of the V. S. & P. railroad when the new town of Ruston sprang up.  It is now the parish seat." [Source: "Historical and Biographical Memoirs of Louisiana"- reprinted in "Louisiana Tombstone Inscriptions" DAR]
