Transylvania County,
North Carolina
Transylvania County was established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1861 from portions of Henderson and Jackson Counties. Brevard, the county seat was established in 1861 and incorporated in 1889. Transylvania is derived from the Latin words trans - meaning "across"
and sylva - meaning "woods".
