Columbia County

COLUMBIA lies in the extreme southern portion of the State; In 1872, the population was 11,397.

Magnolia is the county site. Timber, holly, beech, pine and oak; land level, with some ridges; soil rich, producing fine crops of cotton.
The Shreveport, Little Rock and Memphis railroad will run through this county.

The county was formed on December 17, 1852, and was, in all likelihood, named for Christopher Columbus.
The county seat is Magnolia.
Columbia County is in South Arkansas. Along with Union County, it is home to the largest Bromine reserve in the United States.
